    The Tallow Factory Yoga Studio

    Come and practice yoga and mindfulness meditation in our beautiful studio in a magnificent Tudor room at The Tallow Factory. Our studio is fully equipped for yoga classes for up to 10 people. This June we have a full mid-week schedule of yoga and mindfulness classes as well as day retreats and more fun events to be announced. See our June schedule below. ♥

    Yoga with Lou Hart

    Lou was a marketing executive in Hollywood for over a decade before she decided to deepen her 12 year yoga practice with a teacher training at one of LA's leading studios YogaWorks. In April 2015 Lou moved back to live in the beautiful village of Dedham, where she grew up, to open a retreat centre with yoga studio in her family home The Tallow Factory. Lou is RYT-200 certified with the international Yoga Alliance and is currently earning her diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga. Lou is also on the founding committee of the Dedham Mindfulness Group

    Single class ~ £15

    4 Class Pack valid in June 2017 for use in any of the weekly classes ~ £50

    Please note that our classes are limited to 8 people so we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations. Please also note that the studio is closed during July and August and reopening the first week in September.

  • Yoga With Lou Hart

    Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, it always helps to think about the foundation of what Yoga is all about. What does Yoga mean to you? For me, Yoga is breath. Yoga is about allowing oneself to truly be present. Yoga is letting go of attachment to desired outcomes. Yoga is about cultivating acceptance, patience and compassion for oneself, which then extends to our loved ones, and eventually to all living beings.

    Yoga is union of the mind, body and spirit.

     

    Yoga is in fact a very broad term covering an entire science and philosophy, rich in history with its roots in India. The physical practice that often brings new students to Yoga is actually only a small part of a seemingly endless journey towards self-knowledge. What is commonly known as Yoga in the West is technically Hatha Yoga. Hatha (ha="sun" tha="moon") Yoga practitioners aim for the union of mind-body-spirit though a combination of asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), mudra (body gestures) and shatkarma (internal cleansing). These body-centered practices are used to purify the body and cultivate prana (energy) to activate kundalini, the subtle energies of the body. It is possible to focus primarily on the physical yoga postures if the more spiritual side of the practice does not appeal to you.

     

    Yoga is not a religion or a competitive sport. A posture that may seem really easy for one person will be very challenging for another. It is natural to look around the room when you first start Yoga to see what other students are doing; to watch and learn. However, it is recommended that you avoid comparing your own practice with others. This will only lead to frustration. If you focus on your breath and allow the body to open up through a steady and comfortable practice, you may be amazed by what you will become.

     

    Yoga works for every body. And every body is different. So be kind to yourself and use props when needed to allow the body to ease into poses. There is no hurry. You are always exactly where you need to be.

      

  • My Story

    Hello. I am Lou Hart.

    After a decade working as a marketing executive in Hollywood, I recently moved home to live in the beautiful English countryside to teach yoga and run Dedham Retreats. My lifetime exploration of yoga has taken me on many adventures with different styles but when I discovered YogaWorks I knew I had found the perfect balance of alignment-focussed Hatha yoga and Vinyasa Flow. YogaWorks' mission is to honour and embrace each student’s search for personal growth, well-being, and fulfillment by offering the highest quality yoga programmes to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Yoga works for every body. Literally. So if you think that you're "not good at yoga" or "not flexible enough to do yoga" then come to one of my classes and I will show you how to make a start on the journey. It's by no means a quick fix solution, but with regular practice and dedication you will see improvements to your physical, mental and spiritual health.

     

    In late 2014 I was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to take over the management of our family home The Tallow Factory, a beautiful Tudor candle factory in the heart of the idyllic village of Dedham. My whole being wanted to leave LA and come back to my roots... and I came up with the idea to set up a yoga studio and host retreats in the heart of unspoiled English countryside. So here I am.

     

    In January 2015 I completed a 200-hour teacher training with Yogaworks and am now fully certified RYT-200 with the internationally recognized Yoga Alliance. I'm now teaching in the Colchester area after consolidating my teacher training with a 500-hour diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga. In Autumn 2015 I opened a yoga and meditation studio in a beautiful room at The Tallow Factory in Dedham.

     

    Soon after I arrived back in Dedham, I noticed a poster advertising the first ever Mindfulness meeting in the village. I was thrilled to see that other people in the area are interested in creating a more positive community here. So, I went along and met some fantastic new friends and joined the founding committee of the Dedham Mindfulness Group.

Terms and Conditions for Yoga at Dedham Retreats

Bookings for Courses, Workshops and Day retreats
When booking 4 or 5 Week Courses, Workshops or Day Retreats, please note that we can only provide a full refund (less a 10% admin fee) for cancellations made more than 28 days before the start date. For any other cancellations there will be no refunds or transfers unless your place can be filled from a waiting list, in which case we may be able to refund the fee (less a 20% admin fee). If a course or workshop is cancelled you will be offered either a cash refund or the option of being transferred to an alternative event.

Online class bookings
Pre-booked classes must be paid for in advance, either for a single class or 6 Class Pack. If you select the [Book Now – Pay Cash] option your space is not always confirmed and it is your responsibility to bring cash for the teacher to be paid same day. Classes will automatically be deducted from your 6 Class Pack or you can purchase individual classes with any debit or credit card.

Yoga 6 Class Pack Terms
Once you have activated a 6 Class Pack to attend a particular class, we will automatically reserve you a space in the following 5 weeks in that class and you will receive an email confirmation and reminder. If you do not wish to attend the class for whatever reason you must cancel before 24 hours in order to keep your credit for another class in the schedule. Please note the pack is valid for use in any classes in the schedule for a period of 8 weeks from the purchase date. 6 Class Packs are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Early cancellations
Class bookings can be cancelled up to 24 hours in advance only online. If you paid by class pass, your class will be credited back to your account. We will not be able to process any cancellations manually on your behalf, so please do it through the booking site.

Late cancellations
Any cancellations made after this time (within 24 hours of the class start time) will not be credited back to your class or refunded.
We require that you sign into class a minimum of 10 minutes prior to the class start time. If you have not signed in by this time your space will be opened up to allow drop-ins and this will be treated as a late cancelation and your class will not be credited or refunded.

Cash Bookings
If you purchase a 6 Class Pack by cash then you will be automatically signed up for the next week's class. You will be given the opportunity to log in and manage your schedule and can cancel before 24 hours of the class. If you cancel within the 24-hour notice period or miss the class for any reason you will lose a class credit.

Appointments for private yoga classes
We operate a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. For cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice or if you do not turn up for your appointment, you will be charged the full appointment fee in these circumstances. The details shown on the Dedham Retreats email booking confirmation + appointment reminder is the date and time for which you will be charged if you miss your appointment or cancel less than 24 hours prior to the booked appointment.

Teaching arrangements
Dedham Retreats provides yoga sessions taught by the best independent teachers from the surrounding area, trained by the British Wheel of Yoga (Sport England's Recognised National Governing Body for Yoga). Dedham Retreats also provides the space for independent teachers and therapists to provide services such as workshops, day retreats and treatments. All payments for these services are accepted by Dedham Retreats on behalf of the teacher or therapist.
